TALIA SHAAKED

TALIA SHAAKED VISUAL + MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

Shaaked is a multimedia visual artist whose work extends from 2D to 3D, solo creations and collaborations. Her projects and art practise concentrate on the Built Environment and psychogeography* of space to explore themes and ideas. Shaaked is fascinated by the temporal magic created by light, structures and timing found within the built environment.
Shaaked graduated from Concordia University in 2014 with a BFA in Studio Art. Her background specializes in large scale painting, and installations. Shaaked’s interest and practise in painting has expanded over time to breach 3-Dimensional space. This path has lead to collaborating with various artists to create site specific, immersive Installations.
Shaaked has produced and exhibited work nationally and internationally. She has participated in residencies (Iceland, Quebec, Manitoba), festivals, shows and received grants. Most recently Shaaked co-created a window display for UK Eyewear Designer Cutler & Gross, in their Toronto storefront in 2019 with Ceramicist Leah Lavergne. Prior to that she was the lead artist for a 12’ x 15’ mural at OMAW Restaurant, participated in Nuit Blanche Winnipeg, and completed a Research-Production Residency at Daїmôn Artist Run Centre with Sound Artist Ben Globerman.
*Psychogeography:  describes the effect of a geographical location on the emotions and behaviour of individuals
